RBB UM4: Report by Ulrike Nagel on the Steintherme in Bad Belzig

RBB visited Bad Belzig with UM4. Since December 5, 2009, Bad Belzig has been officially recognized as a state-certified thermal saltwater spa.

A report by Ulrike Nagel for RBB Television, UM4; February 23, 2016.

Bad Belzig’s thermal brine is a fountain of health. With a salt content of about 20 percent (almost like the Dead Sea!) and a temperature of 30° C, the iodine-rich brine bubbles up from great depths and is treated and diluted for use in the bathing pools. This invigorating elixir strengthens the heart and circulatory system, relieves strain on muscles, joints, and the spine, clears the airways, and has a positive effect on the skin. Warm brine acts as a remedy for many ailments. But you’ll benefit from it even if you’re healthy: a brine bath is invigorating—especially during the cold months.

Summary

The video segment from the show “UM 4” (on rbb) showcases various wellness and relaxation options in a spa and sauna complex. A young woman is guided through a series of treatments.

The segment begins with a full-body evening primrose oil wrap, which is intended to act like a mask. Pia lies in a so-called “soft pack” system—or “waterbed”—that lowers. She is described as relaxed and compares the sensation to that of a baby in the womb.

This is followed by a foot massage with oil and warm stones. The therapist explains that the heat from the stones promotes better blood circulation and warms the feet. Pia finds the warmth very pleasant.

A massage therapist performs a thermal water back scrub on Pia, which removes dead skin cells and leaves the skin supple. The treatments are designed for areas that are difficult to reach on your own.

After the treatments, Pia (wearing a bathrobe and flip-flops) heads to the general bathing and sauna area. She visits a wood-fired sauna (Finnjark) and then dips into the thermal pool.

Special attention is given to the Light-Sound Room. Here, Pia relaxes in a pool with a 4.5% salt content, allowing her to float effortlessly on the surface. The underwater lighting, which changes colors (Light-Sound), contributes to her relaxation.

The segment ends with a brief conversation between the host and the massage therapist, who summarize the benefits of the treatments. The segment reminds viewers not to forget their bath slippers.
