RTV Utrecht: Woman from Utrecht Teaches About East Germany Through Role-Playing

Utrecht — “Freundschaft!” Anja’s loud voice echoes through the classroom; they can even hear it next door. All the students jump to their feet and stand at attention. Arms straight, hands pressed tightly against their thighs. “Freundschaft” comes back timidly. Anja thinks they can do better. “You forgot to say the word,” she points out to a student. “One more time!” Laughter breaks out, but they’re still listening. All the third-grade students sit back down and then have to stand up again. This time it goes well. “Very nice, sit down. Wonderful.”

From RTV Utrecht to NOS Regional Bureau

NEW JOB!

Starting in July, I’ll be leaving the RTV Utrecht “nest” where I grew up—and where I was able to settle back in for a while after all my years as a freelancer in Berlin. It’s a very warm nest, because—especially after moving during the strictest lockdown 😷—it was a real relief to be back at my old, familiar workplace, with new, vibrant, and talented colleagues. There, I once again produced dozens of new reports and often appeared live on air, feeling right at home.

Item for RTV Utrecht: Watching the grass grow: it’s possible in Groenekan

Groenekan — Which grass mixture is best suited to our dry summers? Should the plants have deep roots or shallower ones? And which type of vegetation is ultimately the best choice for a farmer? Utrecht University is seeking to investigate these and other questions this year in Groenekan.

RTV Utrecht Report: Nature and Farmers Can Work Together After All: “If you sit down together, a lot is possible”

Province of Utrecht — By integrating nature into their business operations, farmers and nature can indeed coexist. That is the view of the Utrecht Nature and Environment Federation. They have been working with farmers for several years now to develop very concrete solutions.

RTV Utrecht Report: Nature Reserve Threatened by Excess Nitrogen and Water Shortage

Langbroek – The Natura 2000 site near Overlangbroek is in poor condition. “If we don’t take action soon, there won’t be anything left,” says ecologist Wim Verheugt. Together with a fellow ecologist from Utrecht, he wrote a report on the ash coppice forest near the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.

The Mondrian commemorative coin may look simple, but it isn't

In Amersfoort, State Secretary for Culture and Media Gunay Uslu symbolically struck the first Mondrian coin. The commemorative coin is intended to honor artist Piet Mondrian, who was born in Amersfoort 150 years ago. The design appears simple: the body of work of one of the world’s most famous artists has been reduced to two simple lines.

RTV Utrecht Report: Visitors to the English-speaking Trinity Church Mourn Queen Elizabeth

Utrecht – At the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Utrecht, worshippers and visitors are paying their respects following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. At the entrance to the English-speaking church, a photo of the British queen hangs with the text below it reading: “In memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.” Inside the church, visitors—most of whom speak English—can sign a condolence book.
