This year, the Keistad Triathlon became a duathlon

This year, the Keistad Triathlon Amersfoort had to make do with one fewer discipline. Because blue-green algae was found in water samples from the Eem River last week, the swimming leg was canceled and replaced with an extra lap of running.

RTV Utrecht – Extinct dinosaurs come to life at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht: "Not everything is accurate here, but it's still wonderful"

Utrecht – Dinosaur enthusiasts can have a blast at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. More than eighty life-size dinosaurs are on display here through early August. The extinct animals have been recreated for this traveling exhibition, and nearly all of the dinosaurs move as you walk past them. There’s also plenty to read about creatures such as the spinosaurus, velociraptor, and kentrosaurus.

According to forecasts, this afternoon will see as much rain fall locally in just a few hours as normally falls in a month. That’s good news after the recent drought. But how can we ensure that the water doesn’t cause any problems and that as much of it as possible can be retained for future dry periods?

RTV Utrecht report: Firefighter Peter was trapped under the rubble during an explosion at an apartment building in Bilthoven

“Semper paratus” is tattooed on firefighter Peter Dekker’s tree-trunk-thick forearm. It’s his motto in Latin: Always ready. So when a report came in last Thursday about a gas leak in an apartment building in Bilthoven, he was ready.

Happy Utrecht residents can finally head to the flea market again (RTV Utrecht report)

UTRECHT – After two years of the coronavirus pandemic, Utrecht residents were finally able to set up the traditional flea market again last night. Ulrike Nagel of RTV Utrecht stopped by with a camera and found happy and relieved buyers and sellers.

RTV Utrecht: First 60 Ukrainian students attend classes at Utrecht's "shkola"

Starting today, 60 students at the “shkola” of the NUOVO school group in Utrecht will be taught by Ukrainian teachers. Another 60 students will join them this week. They are all between the ages of 12 and 18 and are staying with host families in and around the city.

RTV Utrecht: Henschotermeer — Political parties in the municipality of Utrechtse Heuvelrug want to sit down with everyone

Many politicians in Utrechtse Heuvelrug say that all parties involved should communicate more with one another. “I see that a lot of parties are making all sorts of statements, but I wonder if they’re actually talking to each other,” says Judith van Roy of the VVD Utrechtse Heuvelrug. “As far as I’m concerned, someone needs to take the lead in bringing all the parties to the table. There’s a lot of confusion right now; no one knows what’s going on, and that leads to a lot of rumors. We need to start a conversation.”

Time to go out again—"the night is just getting started"

UTRECHT – Last night, for the first time in a long while, people were back on the dance floor at numerous clubs in Utrecht and Amersfoort. Clubs such as De Helling, dB’s, and Ekko took part in the “De Nacht staat op” protest; in Amersfoort, people could go out at Fluor. The event is a protest against the government’s COVID-19 measures.

RTV Utrecht: No Permit Granted for Tree Felling in Beverweert

WERKHOVEN – Dozens of trees were cut down at Beverweert Castle this week. Local residents witnessed the event and are concerned about it. During a walk along the estate near Werkhoven, all those felled trees are clearly visible. In addition, a historic fence was removed a few months ago. The owner says it is being restored, but as of now, the fence has not yet been reinstalled.

Trade your Christmas tree for fries? You can do that in Langbroek!

LANGBROEK – In Langbroek, residents were able to drop off their Christmas trees at the local garden center all Wednesday afternoon. In total, nearly 300 trees were collected within four hours. They will be shredded, and the wood chips will be used as mulch in the food forest in Wijk bij Duurstede.
