RTV Utrecht: "A View of Rhenen"

It’s not a done deal yet, but the City Museum in Rhenen is one step closer to acquiring Jan van Goyen’s painting “View of Rhenen.” Residents donated the first 1,000 euros, and the Foundation for the Former Guesthouse and Orphanage in Rhenen made a generous donation of 25,000 euros. In total, the City Museum needs 350,000 euros to purchase the painting, which is also known as “The Night Watch of Rhenen.”

What the hek!

A little walking path through the greenery, with some grass on either side; after walking a few meters through the new housing development on the outskirts of Driebergen, you already feel like you’re in the woods. Just one more turn to the right, and then—suddenly, there’s a large metal fence. Behind that gate lie more trees and the local farm where you can buy eggs. But that’s no longer an option from this side; the path has been closed off for a few weeks now, and no one can get through anymore.

RTV Utrecht: 4 million euros for Utrecht research on the ancient Roman border

Residents of Utrecht can contribute to the research on the Limes, which is set to begin soon. Utrecht University has been awarded 4 million euros to map the Limes even more thoroughly. The project will examine the impact that the northern border of the Roman Empire had on the Netherlands 2,000 years ago, as well as how that impact is still evident today.

RBB Brandenburg Aktuell: Rental Mats for the Capital

You’ll find gray “City Clean” rental mats lying around everywhere in hotels and public facilities. Ready to welcome dirty shoes, so to speak. But what if the mats themselves are dirty?

Something very few people know: The mats are regularly picked up for cleaning and taken to Bötzow in Brandenburg. A Berlin-Brandenburg connection that’s really something else!

RBB Abendschau – Day Trip Tip – Bunker in Wünsdorf-Waldstadt

A little sun, a little rain: The weather is unpredictable, but our outing recommendation isn’t. It takes us to Wünsdorf, where the Wehrmacht built a bunker in the late 1930s that was also used by the Soviet Army after World War II. It can still be visited today.

Restoring a church is a long-term endeavor. It can’t be done without great dedication and many years of commitment. The story of St. Francis Church in Oudewater illustrates this. The work—repairing, cleaning, and painting—is carried out with meticulous care. Not just for the sake of it, but out of a passion for the craft and a love for the church. The “lucky ones” restoring this church share their stories.
