I am a journalist. I am an (East) German living in the Netherlands; I am fully bilingual in German and Dutch. [🇩🇪 🇳🇱] I work as an editor at NOS Binnenland / Radio 1 Journaal. I also work as a moderator or chairperson. As an expert on Germany, I am occasionally asked to explain developments in Germany, share my views on current events there, and discuss these topics on radio and television programs.
I was born in 1979 in Greifswald, in what was then the GDR. From the age of 5, I grew up in East Berlin, among the Plattenbauten of Berlin-Marzahn. I was 10 years old when the Wall fell in 1989 and was fully aware of the event.
After graduating from high school, I moved to the Netherlands at age 19 to pursue love and my studies. After four years studying communication sciences at the University of Groningen, I completed my studies with a postgraduate program in radio and television journalism.
I gained my first experience as a journalist at Radio 1, working on the AVRO program “1opdemiddag.” After that, I began working as an editor at KRO Reporter, a program focused on investigative journalism.
Eventually, I made the switch to the regional station RTV Utrecht. There, I worked as a reporter from 2006 to 2012—for both radio and TV, and primarily as a camjo—an independent camera journalist who films, interviews, and edits on their own. In 2011, I also became editor-in-chief and combined both roles.
Meanwhile, my partner Jos and I have three children: Max (May 2008), Lotta (December 2011), and Elise (July 2016).
In 2012, we moved to Berlin for about eight years, where I worked as a freelance journalist, reporter, host, and correspondent. I worked for the regional broadcaster RBB, as well as for various Dutch media outlets, including RTL Nieuws.
Since January 2021, I’ve been working again at RTV Utrecht as an experienced reporter and managing editor. After that, I served as coordinator and managing editor at NOS Bureau Regio, as editor for the NOS podcasts De Dag and Met het Oog op Morgen, and now as editor at NOS Binnenland and Radio 1 Journaal.
In addition, in 2024, I produced a podcast titled “Over de Muur.”
