So I did it. I can hang an NL Award above my bed.
Completely against all expectations (since there are so many other great stories out there), my colleague Eva M. and I won the award for best regional TV and radio production last night. When it was submitted, I was on vacation, and when I got back, I thought: Oh yeah, that really was a pretty cool series.

Just before the announcement, it flashed through my mind: we’re not going to win. Because the other two entries were more political, more substantive, funnier.
But then, the jury’s summary:
“Life and death in times of soccer mania. Exciting radio where something actually happens. Produced with respect. An international event adapted to the region with a personal perspective. The winning program in the Radio Background category is RTV Utrecht’s ‘WK Soap.’”
And then I got to go up on stage after all. (My colleague Eva was in the bath at that moment with her big pregnant belly, and since she can’t drink alcohol, I get to finish the bottle of champagne all by myself.)
Proud and happy, that’s for sure.
> Curious? Here’s the radio report that actually won the award (Gerrit passed away a week later)
> And here you can find parts of the entire TV series
> And don’t forget to check out *De Koersk*, because it won too!

Herzlichen Glückwunsch!!!!
