Hundreds of sex crime cases are piling up at the Central Netherlands Police Department, and the backlog just won’t get any smaller. Last week, a former sex crimes detective posted a statement on social media, expressing his frustration over the heavy workload.

Today, COVID-19 restrictions in the Netherlands are being further eased: venues with a high turnover of visitors, such as zoos and amusement parks, are allowed to reopen, as are sports, dance, and music schools.

A group of residents in Houten has collected thousands of signatures in an effort to force a referendum on the construction of nearly 6,000 homes. The municipal council plans to significantly expand construction over the next twenty years, but opponents fear that high-rise buildings, in particular, will undermine Houten’s village character.
