Province of Utrecht – Regional public transportation workers plan to go on strike for five consecutive days starting February 6 throughout the Netherlands. The unions expect that no buses will run that week.

Utrecht – Four young people and four asylum seekers. Starting today, they’ll be neighbors in a new housing project in Renswoude. With eight brand-new studio apartments, the municipality hopes to kill two birds with one stone: help young people find housing and fulfill its obligation to provide housing for status holders.

In Germany, it’s finally time to celebrate at Oktoberfest again. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no traditional beer festival was held for the past two years. Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder therefore wants to let loose. Ulrike Nagel reports.
Wijk bij Duurstede is taking additional measures following several incidents related to the asylum shelter in the town. For example, additional police officers and special enforcement officers will be deployed to monitor the situation. A screening has also been conducted to identify potential troublemakers. Fourteen asylum seekers have since left the shelter.

As has often been the case this summer, it was very hot today. So people headed out in all sorts of ways to enjoy the summer weather. But is it really still possible to enjoy the sun without a care in the world? According to environmental psychologist Karlijn van den Broek, you should definitely do so. “But be aware of why it’s so hot on a day like today: climate change.”
