Smiling faces, cheers, and lots of hugs: the atmosphere is electric in the lobby of Calscollege in Nieuwegein. The students who passed their exams gather there in the late afternoon to pick up their report cards and a flag. “I’m so happy I passed,” one student exclaims with a smile.

Starting in July, I’ll be leaving the RTV Utrecht “nest” where I grew up—and where I was able to settle back in for a while after all my years as a freelancer in Berlin. It’s a very warm nest, because—especially after moving during the strictest lockdown 😷—it was a real relief to be back at my old, familiar workplace, with new, vibrant, and talented colleagues. There, I once again produced dozens of new reports and often appeared live on the air, feeling right at home.
After a six-month delay, the new asylum seeker center in Kamp van Zeist will open this afternoon. The 200 asylum seekers from the adjacent emergency shelter will then move to a new building on the grounds, which offers more privacy. In addition, there is room for another 200 new asylum seekers who will be transferred from locations including the Ter Apel registration center in Groningen.

Utrecht – The true die-hards headed out today wearing ponchos to celebrate Liberation Day. The sometimes heavy rain showers didn’t stop people from celebrating freedom at various locations throughout the province. And the good news is: it looks like it will stay dry from now on.

A therapist from Woudenberg appeared before the Disciplinary Board in Den Bosch today. He is alleged to have touched several patients in an unprofessional manner. The Health and Youth Care Inspectorate had previously received a number of complaints about this, and the man was already required to stop working as a therapist in August of last year. The Inspectorate is now also seeking a professional ban against him.
